Raisins Are Doing More Than Just Adding Sweetness

I almost left raisins off this list of things worth writing about - they seem like the least interesting ingredient in the bar. Turns out there's more to them than I gave them credit for.

Nutrition at a Glance

Per 1 oz, about 60 raisins

  • 236mg potassium

236 milligrams of potassium in a small handful is more than I expected from something that's mostly dried grape sugar. It's not the headline reason they're in the recipe, but it's a nice bonus.

The real reason is chew. Nuts and seeds are crunchy, honey is sticky, and raisins bring a completely different texture that breaks up the bite. Without them, I think the bar would feel one-note.

Raisins are in the Original, Vegan, and Holiday bars, plus the Crumble. Triple C leaves them out in favor of cacao and coffee.
